The team at Frenchs Forest have been recognised for their commitment and development of an everyday program that explores and demonstrates to each child the importance of good nutrition and community engagement.
The Australian Childcare Alliance is a peak organisation of the childcare industry and their initiative Early Childhood Education Week aims to connect and inspire all of Early Childhood Education in Australia. The Awards Celebration was held on the evening of 28 October 2017 at Sydney’s Shangri-La Hotel.
What caught their attention?
The children at Kindalin Frenchs Forest have developed a passion and commitment to growing their own capsicums in a vegetable garden at the centre. They are dedicated to their garden, with each child eagerly watering the capsicums and making sure it’s free of bugs.
“We don’t want any worms eating our capsicums” one child said to Director Miss Ashlee.
Through the experiences of good nutrition and healthy eating the children understand the importance of healthy eating habits and self-control through this hands on learning experience. It has also provided the children with the opportunity to engage with their community and families as they successfully distributed the vegetables from a mini stall in the centre entrance.
The children explained to customers how they could use their capsicums to produce healthy dips and snacks. It was a great experience, not only involving the children and Educators, but local businesses and families too.
The entire Kindalin team are extremely proud of Frenchs Forests’ achievements and improvements of the children’s everyday program, as the children engage in good nutrition and learning the importance of being connected to themselves, one another and the environment. Congratulations!
